— Our Story

How Rootplains came to be.

I

Origin

Single-origin, from Ghanaian soil.

Rootplains began with a simple question — could a bar of chocolate, made carefully, become a quiet force for good? We source from Ghana because that is where our roots are, and because the land there grows cacao the way it should be grown: slowly, and in the shade of something older.

II

Meaning

The ground it grew from.

Rootplains is a reminder we carry into every bar — that the difference between chocolate that is fine and chocolate that is felt is always found in the ground it grew from, and in the people who tend it.

III

Blueprint

Chocolate that restores, not extracts.

Our vision is to build a brand that lasts because it was built honestly — season after season, restoring the land and the communities behind every bar, rather than scaling before it is ready.

Restoring the ground

The forest is not a backdrop. It is the work.

Cacao is a forest plant. It thrives under shade, in living soil, among the trees that shelter it — so caring for the forest is not a side project. It is inseparable from making good chocolate.

Our purpose is to give back more than we take: to regenerate the landscapes that grow our cacao, to measure our progress honestly, and to keep planting long after the bars are gone.

Shade

Cacao belongs under taller trees. We protect the canopy that lets it thrive.

Soil

Living soil grows living chocolate. We farm to feed it, not deplete it.

Species

A forest worth its name holds many lives. We measure health by diversity, not yield.
